Dedicated student highlights and reusable profile sections bring the college experience to life through individual voices and experiences.
Marketing and departmental contributors can confidently update content without touching code.
Mapped legacy URLs—including existing redirects—to preserve search visibility and ensure all previously retired pages had a purposeful destination.
Overview
Principia College needed more than a new website—it needed a flexible digital foundation capable of supporting prospective students while empowering multiple campus departments to manage content efficiently.
Working from an externally developed visual design, Enginate focused on translating the design into a scalable publishing system that balances engaging user experiences with long-term maintainability.
The Challenge
With more than 250 pages and content maintained by multiple campus teams, the website needed to support a wide range of academic programs, departments, and audiences without becoming difficult to manage.
Beyond implementing the design, the challenge was to create reusable components that accommodated real-world content—including optional sections, varying content lengths, and evolving editorial needs—while preserving visual consistency throughout the site.
Our work centered on transforming a comprehensive design system into a flexible publishing platform built for both prospective students and campus editors.
For visitors, we focused on improving discoverability through clearer navigation, dynamic breadcrumbs, dedicated majors pages, and interior section navigation that helps prospective students explore academic programs without needing to understand the college's organizational structure.
Behind the scenes, we developed a library of reusable components that allow marketing and designated campus editors to assemble new pages using pre-built layouts instead of needing custom code. Flexible components accommodate optional content, changing layouts, and significantly longer real-world content than originally anticipated in the design.
Throughout implementation, we maintained a close partnership with the CMS platform team, providing real-world implementation feedback that helped inform ongoing platform enhancements while ensuring the best possible experience for Principia College.
We also integrated the website with Principia College's Slate admissions platform, creating a more seamless experience between prospective student journeys and the college's enrollment processes.
Key Outcomes
The completed platform provides Principia College with a scalable website capable of supporting hundreds of pages while remaining approachable for both visitors and content editors.
Prospective students can more easily discover academic programs through improved navigation and content organization, while marketing and campus departments can confidently update content using reusable components without relying on developer involvement.
The result is a flexible digital foundation designed to evolve alongside the college.
